Biography

Doug Jackson was born in Dallas,Texas and lived there until the age of 7. He also lived in Alabama and Connecticut (as a child) before his family relocated to the small Colorado mountain town of Evergreen. Jackson attended junior high and high school there.
Doug's musical journey began at age 6. "I remember most of my summers being spent at my grandparents Lake Texoma home. Chores, waterskiing, dirt bikes and guitar were the daily routine.
Growing up in the Rocky Mountains was an amazing blessing. The scenery was beautiful. I loved skiing, hiking, camping and white water rafting. My hometown was very hip in the arts and music. A friend and myself started a rock band in 7th grade which would set in motion some very pivotal events that would change my life. A kid who played trumpet in the junior high jazz band heard me playing and told the director about me. Shortly thereafter, I was playing in the school stage band. That was where my journey into jazz began."
At age 13, Doug was the recipient of his first jazz soloist award. It was at a jazz band festival and awarded to him, signed, by Dr. William Fowler, a "Down Beat" and "Keyboard" magazine columnist and jazz educator.
